Leader Electronics Corporation has joined the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS). A globally-active producer of high-grade test and measurement equipment for the broadcast industry, Leader is in full accord with the desire expressed by a growing number of broadcasters and media organisations to implement IP-based technology alongside legacy SDI-based systems or even to replace SDI entirely.
Hilversum-based video systems specialist United has chosen Leader's LV5490 as the test and measurement core of a 4K ultra-high-definition flyaway production system for Amazon Prime's new motoring television series, The Grand Tour. The show reunites presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. An initial 36 episodes are being produced for release on Amazon Prime. The LV5490 was purchased via Leader's channel partner Fofic BV, based at Diemen near Amsterdam.
"This assignment required a portable high-end solution that is lightweight but also fulfills the requirements of Amazon Prime," explains Bolke Burnaby Lautier, United's manager of special projects. "The new flyaway consists of a camera and a recording system plus a comprehensive audio setup. The cameras yield wide-colour-space 4K UHD files including proxies which can be edited immediately."
As you will now be aware, Boxer Systems are representing the Newtek IP Series of products announced earlier this year at IBC 2016. The IP Series is built around the same leading NewTek technology and core engines, but now has more flexible input and output options as well as new hardware to allow the single conversion to NDI (IP). With remote production becoming more of an interest for sports, news and entertainment, this new technology gives OB’s, broadcasters and facilities companies new options for advanced production. We will be with NewTek on November the 9th to demonstrate some of the ways you can transform your productions with NewTek IP Series.
